I met Nina last Saturday while shooting another event. She and Kurt approached me about maternity portraits. I was thrilled of course and naturally assumed we had a couple weeks. Then he said it “the baby could come any day now”. Stress. Gotta fit this in asap! After booking not only their maternity but a follow-up newborn shoot (coming 9/10), I had a couple days to plan. This included a phone call to Nina everyday just to check on the baby status, up until I was in the car headed on the two hour trip to Harrison. If the baby came, we had a newborn shoot ready to roll. Soooo glad baby Mahla chose to hold out for her mommy to get the portraits she has always wanted.
This shoot was different than any shoot I have done. Mostly studio with a heavier boudoir feel. It pushed me to think from a different angle and some really incredible images came from the shoot. Tastefully gorgeous photos of Nina DAYS before she is due. She looked incredible. Kurt was a fantastic help adjusting lighting as I maneuvered around the room. He was a pretty great model too (of course not nearly as great as Nina!) While I won’t be sharing any of the photos from the shoot to maintain their privacy, I will share this photo I took in a field near their house at the end of the day…just before the storms rolled in.

After the maternity shoot on Thursday, Matt and I along with Myra and Andrew went out to dinner at Betty’s and chatted about life of fried plantains and grilled pitas w/ spinach dip (Betty’s has a rockin menu and the biggest glasses of iced tea ever. I was in heaven.)
Myra and Andrew are incredible. Genuine. With a faith stronger than anyone I know at their stage in life. These two have seen a lot of the past few years. There have been through some real struggles but those things seemed to propel these two through life.
Myra and Andrew – You have been an inspiration to Matt and I. I bet we’re not the only ones that feel this way. It’s been incredible to witness your journey over the past year+ and cheer you on behind the scenes. I’m so excited for the exciting changes that have come to you over the past couple months. What a fun time in your lives. Thanks again for allowing me to capture and share with others the pure joy and beauty we see in you everyday. I CANNOT WAIT to see your little boy.

And a busy one! Three shoots in one day. Trust me, I never plan for it. Just happens. This needs moved. That makes sense to shoot at this time because this other thing is now happening.
Well, bring it on!
Then the rainy > turned cloudy > turned sunshine > turned rain brought on some incredible shoots. Here’s a preview of two of the three today…
The incredibly gorgeous mamma and her handsome man that said “I still do” tonight in a backyard ceremony:) It was precious!

So this was fun. Really, a great time. Matt and Laura were up for anything (I’ve had a lot of clients like that recently!) They are celebrating their 2-year anniversary and I totally talked them into a “Day-After” type of session. They were MORE than willing to go for it. Thanks for trusting me guys!
Day-After sessions are typically just that, the day after the wedding. It’s your chance to let loose. Be you. No pressure to smile. No one is watching you…(well, other than me and a lovely 2nd shooter!) But it’s intimate. Beautiful. And yes, sometimes a little steamy:) Some of the best shots are the one’s you first ask “should I do this?” – yes. Do it. Sit down in the water. Get your hair wet. Let your strap break. Get a little muddy. And if you’re not comfortable doing that in your ultra expensive designer gown, buy a $40 gown off the clearance rack at Davids Bridal or your local bridal shop. That’s what Laura did! Or maybe you want to keep clean. That’s completely fine. The first 8 or 9 photos below are a great example and are perfect for couples that want more portrait time but the wedding day is just too hectic. Or maybe you want a slightly different look in a different dress?

I met them when M and I started going to Northwest. Jared and Lindsay are the seemingly quiet ones that always surprise you. (Like Jared’s brand new enormous tatoo for instance. It’s pretty sweet.) One thing that has never caught me off guard is their true, kind, honest love for each other. Sometimes you want to tell them to push the other in the dirt. Make her mad or something. And they probably have those moments…maybe:) But you’re more likely to see him pull the car up. Carry her things. Open the door for her and walk her through with his hand on her back. Their relationship is beautiful and one of those you just know will last.
