Archive for September, 2009

Kurt and Nina welcomed baby Mahla into the world early this month.  I totally wasn’t kidding when I said I thought she might have that baby during our maternity shoot last month.  I was so excited to see the little addition to the family and she was cuter and newer than ever.  So tiny and squeaky.  Just precious.  So funny:  she does this pirate thing where she’ll only open one eye.  She also has this little growl that would sneak out every so often.  It’s so stinkin cute.

Our shoot was lifestyle – comfortable and natural.  Between yawns, it was great to hang out at the house and chat about the incredible lack of sleep this lovely couple is blessed with:)

Closing out a busy September!

September 27, 2009

It has been QUITE a month.  I’ve loved getting to know so many new families and have enjoyed coming home and reliving my time with your friends and family as I start editing and creating blog entries to share!

There are still 5 more events to post for you (sorry…a little behind!) from September and I look forward to sharing!  A few included in the coming-soon list are show below.  A busy and crazy fun weekend!

Here’s a sneak peek – and with some of my clients having repeat shoots over the last couple months, I’m sure you’ll recognize a few people in the next couple weeks of posting:)

The GORGEOUS Dusseau family shoot tonight in Upper Arlington at Miller Park.  I’m not kidding…I think there must be model-casting to get into this family.  And btw, the pyramid….Gretchen’s idea but the babies would have none of it ;)  So fun!

Little did I know when I spoke with Kelli on the phone about scheduling a shoot for her family that she would quickly become a new part of my life – friend and colleague.  I adore the Ramey’s and had the wonderful privilege of spending time shooting their beautiful family out in Bexley.

Two things were pretty clear right off the bat – 1.  Ridiculous genes.   2.  Kelli = style.  That was before we even spoke…just first look.  After the shoot started, I saw this cute little dynamic:  Karli (daughter) tries to be…or maybe just naturally is…just like her mom.  Too cute.  Kelli, that girl is beyond her years, by the way.  Then I saw this connection I love to see when mom and dad are without the kids for 5 minutes.  JC totally (still) has the hots for Kelli.  It’s special.  It’s youthful.  It was effortless stealing a special few moments with these two.

I got into this business for three reasons – passion for the work, desire to continue our travel adventures and most importantly – the opportunity to meet some new and incredible people.  I love meeting a new family every week.  New friends, really.  Kelli is a great example of what I love so much about what I do.  I met someone with a great heart that has quickly become a friend.  I lucked out…she also has great talent – someone I want on my team for future business endeavors.

These two are quite a couple.  Yes, you’ve seen/heard a lot about Danielle recently…but not Brandon, her adorable and INCREDIBLY thoughtful husband.  I’m not sure who is more lucky here – looks like they both got the best.  They’re crazy about each other.  It was evident the second we met.

Danielle had plans for these pictures.  She has a large wall in the bedroom and wanted to do a series of portraits for the space.  We went with a deep brown-toned to coordinate with the style of the room.

Honestly…If I could look half as good as she does, I’d be asking for my portraits to be taken all the time!!!

Enjoy your portraits Danielle and Brandon!

I want to introduce you to Tarah Gaa [tg].  This is a woman of many talents.  She has an eye for design – bringing a decade of experience in advertising and multimedia and puts every ounce of passion into her work.   Tarah paints abstract art containing a lot of texture, lots of color and mixed emotion.  Work meant to make people feel or see something.  After spending an afternoon with Tarah and her gorgeous art, I totally get it.  Painting has been a life-long passion for her.  Tarah started by painting work for the walls in her apartment.  The work grew and the space ran out.  Friends began to notice.  Art shows began happening.  Paintings began selling.  ”It’s an incredible feeling to have my art in someone else’s home.  I like causing a reaction and evoking a feeling.”  Tarah wants to give people the opportunity to draw from her work and take from it what they see.  She’s an amazing talent and wonderful person.  Be sure to check out the [tg] site and one of her upcoming art shows (currently at Indie House Collective).

As we were wrapping up the shoot, I heard a train.  Could not have been more excited.  Tarah was a total sport and played model (clearly not difficult for her) for the next 10 minutes.  Seriously though…she can work the camera.  The next four shots were within the 10 minute train session!

These will be coming in a couple posts.  Here’s the first!  And I’ll probably still add to it tonight.  There were so many great shots from this session.  And they’re all very different showing a different piece of Tarah’s life.  I’m excited to share more about Tarah with you…but first, here are some favorite images I took during prep and painting.

Dr. Gray (my dad:), approached me about “upgrading” his website.  After much discussion, we both agreed it was time for a complete refresh.  He’s made great strides in his first 4 years of owning the practice (which he purchased after retiring from 25 years in the Airforce).  He has an incredible patient-base and is excited to elevate his communications as he continues to grow.

Of course with most redesigns, it’s best to have some fresh, high quality images to work with.  I was thrilled when he asked me (and trusted me enough!) to be his photographer.  It’s one thing to put everything you can into new clients and trust your instint…but when it’s your own family…it can be a little scarier!  If you know my dad, you know this guy has HIGH expectations (I say this kindly. Really).  When he wants something, he wants it that way only.  He’s usually right about it too:)  Well, no worries because the shoot went fantastic.  We planned out the right time of day for lighting the front of the office (mid day he gets these horrible heavy shadows on the left side).  The day was perfect.  The lighting was great.  Dad had lots of lab work to do so I shot lifestyle – most photos of him in his element.

There’s one more piece to all of this. Greenline Creative.  We brought Julie and Dennis onto the project asap to collaborate with us in the shot-planning and wireframing stage.  They listened and heard my dad’s needs and have begun to produce a product right on target.  Here’s a quick peek of the site in the works!
